Kunjin starts off with a complex mix of flavors with notes of wild berries and citrus, with floral and herbal aromas. On our first sip, we immediately found this combination reminded us of the vibrant fruity notes in Szschuan peppercorns. The berry side of this dynamic profile has the depth of rich sweetness that lands more in the range of açaí berries. The citrus note starts off almost like lemon candy before softening into a lemongrass herbal note. All of this is supported by a soft and buttery foundation that reminds us of macadamia nut cookies. There is an unexpected richness to this coffee that is comforting and approachable; not from a heavy handed roast, but from the complexity of the coffee itself.

This coffee was grown by many small-scale farmers in the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea. These farmers have very small farms, with limited production; this requires them to combine their harvests into processable and marketable volumes. Their coffee is delivered to mills in cherry form in order to confirm the quality and ripeness of the harvest. It is then processed using a washed method. The combination of all these small lots is what creates the complexity of this coffee.
