Putra Gayo is incredibly sweet and fruity with strong notes of red berries and an undertone of white peach. Throughout the cup we are constantly reminded of strawberry saltwater taffy. The fruitiness is supported by clean herbal notes that call to mind jasmine green tea and Cascade hops. As the cup cools, we see a soft creaminess similar to a vanilla crème caramel.
The Putra Gayo coffee farm and mill is owned by Iwannitosa Putra and serves the two subregions of Aceh Tengeh and Bener Meriah. His farm consists of 250,000 coffee trees with avacados, bananas, jackfuit and lamtoro trees planted throughout for shade.
While Sumatra is historically known for primarily using the wet-hull processing method, Iwannitosa specializes in washed and cherry dried coffees. This lot has been cherry dried, with a 10-12 hours of dry fermentation, before 30 days of drying. It is incredibly special to be able to share this lot with you, which is sure to change your perception of Sumatran coffee.
