Kiamugumo is complex and sweet with contrasting tropical fruit brightness bookending a smooth, spiced and herbal cup. The first flavor that comes to mind is guava jam, developing into a sweet cinnamon note that reminds us of horchata. As the cup opens up we see the complex herbal and spice fusion that lands in the realm of traditional fountain sodas. Finally, the cup resolves with the surprisingly bright return of fresh guava.
The Kiamugumo coffee factory was founded in the 1970’s by the New Ngariama Farmers Cooperative Society. The group supports two other mills in the area. This mill supports around 1,500 individual smallholder members that deliver ripe cherry directly to the mill. These producers operate very small farms, averaging only 1/8 of a hectare each, and grow their coffee interspersed with other crops.
